Just a few days after I had upgraded to 1101, I just noticed on teh Asus FTP
server that there is a new BIOS 1201.

ftp://dlsvr02.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5W%20DH%20Deluxe/

I am just about to try it. Hopefully it will give the ability to unlock
Core 2 Duo chips, like they did for P5B owners recently:

And if my E6600 turns out to be fully unlocked I'll be really happy.

I see no obvious differences with this BIOS. As it came out just a few days
after 1101, it must be a stability/bug fix.

The new P5B BIOS only unlocks the multiplier downward, which is essentially
a speedstep hack, or something like that. Are real unlocking of the
multiplier would allow you to increase it.

BTW, I'm running P5W DH BIOS 1301. Got it here:

Phil, Hows this new BIOS and what different about 1301 as opposed to the
other BIOS's?

When a chip is locked, it's locked by Intel within the CPU chip itself
at the time of manufacture. Nothing that a motherboard bios can do can
unlock a locked chip. However, some recent chips have been "partially
locked" (the multiplier could be lowered but not raised, and only
lowered within limits). A bios could fail to recognize this and not let
you use even the two or three multipliers that such chips have available.

Do you know about ways to unlock a locked E6600 CPU?
