Hello,

While reading this x-bit lab review/report I came across this
interesting look tool. I was wondering if my cpu was overheating at
some places... (because I was worried about a little bit of missing
thermal paste material, which is probably no issue but o) I was also
wondering if artic silver 5 could reduce the heat and thereby the noise
because the fan kicks in at 46 degrees and the cpu was changing between
45 degrees and 46 degrees making the fan spin up and down up and
down... Since it had these pictures of the cores I wondered if there
were multiple sensors on the chip but this is not the case... though
the tool is very handy and here is why:

First of all I don't know if this is necessary for the tool to be able
to do it's thing but I have "Cool and Quiet" and "Q-Fan Control"
enabled in the bios and ofcourse also the "Cool and Quiet" drivers
installed.

Then do this:

Download/Install the AMD Power Monitor. Read the short manual... it
will help you understand things very quickly... otherwise follow this
instructions: Right click on the tray icon and select:
"Minimum battery power" or any other settings like "laptop/maximum
battery savings" etc.

All these settings do the same... I think what they do is they lower
the cpu voltage thereby decreasing the clock speed ? Or something ?
Because in they bios I can't run the cpu slower ? But maybe via vcore
settings it can run slower ?

Anyway this settings makes the cores of the processor run at only 1000
mhz instead 2000 mhz.. thereby reducing the heat... and now the
temperature is like 43 degrees...

And now the fans don't spin up anymore and my system is pretty quiet...
and I like it
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalooooooooootttttttttttttiiieeeeeeeeeee =D

Especially for just every day windows use... this is excellent...

I haven't tried playing any games yet to see what happens... but I
already love it...

So this tool and tip gets a 3 star rating which is the best rating
possible :D ;) =D

*** AMD Power Monitor ***

There you go...

3 STAR RATING =D

Bye,
Skybuck.

P.S.: Actually I was looking for a way to make my system run underclock
and more quiet... Quite disappointing to see that asus provides no
tools to do this... Bad Bad Bad nononononononono.

Oh well at least the people at AMD have a brain lol :D

Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee THUMBS UP FOR AMD ;)
Wieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP over and out.

Hallo,

I have also been monitoring some temperatures with the asus pc probe
II.

The CPU fan speed is 1430 RPM and temperature at 42 degrees.

When CPU reaches 46 degrees the fan spins up around 3300 rpm give or
take a hundred ;)

The only other thing I noticed is the motherboard temperature rising
one degree on these low rounds per minute to 45 degrees. It's now
strangely enough at 44 degrees. I also set the treshold to 46 degrees
for the motherboard to prevent the alarm in pc probe to start alarming
lol.. ok it just went to 45 degrees and back to 44 degrees hehe.

I also played battlefield 2 demo with all high settings with both cores
at 1 gigahertz and the frame rate was 40 to 70 frames per second on a
60 player server... I think the frame rate is about the same with both
cores at 2 gigahertz... so at least that doesnt matter so much...
Also the cpu fan starting spinning up again while playing the game.. no
idea what the cpu temperature was maybe 46 degrees or so I should
investigate further.

I think applieing artic silver 5 might just be enough to cool the
processor 1 or 2 degrees down and this could just be enough to prevent
the cpu fan from spinning up.

I also just had some food and while I was in the kitchen I could not
even hear my computer... normally I could hear the old computer
(kitchen and living room connected together).

So the pc is definetly very quiet now a big improvement from day one
when it was super noisy and I had a headache too that day probably
because of little sleep though ;)
But it was definetly super noisy. Someday I ll report a full report
with all kinds of tips..

But for now here is what I did:

Connect the two harddisk fans to the seasonic s12 power supply cable
splitter for extra fans... two connectors with L for low voltage... the
papst fans for the harddisks now spin ultra quiet so I am really happy
with this power supply and the additonal cable and features.
Also installed xfx drivers so that graphics cards are quiet and
connected power fan and additional 120 mm fan to chassis fan1 and
enabled q-fan control and cool n quiet etc etc as described above. Hmm
let's see euhmm...

Oh yeah one more thing the power fan is at 763 rpm which is in red and
seems low this is probably because the 120 mm fan has taking over the
task of the power fan... I also tested without the additional 120 mm
connected and I think the power fan then started spinning up etc... ;)
I could test that some more one day to see the real rpm's but for now I
am done testing don't wanna go overboard.. or maybe I will test it some
more just for the kick off it... or maybe not because I dont really
care so much for that information.

I think I will install artic silver 5 just to get maximum cooling
performance.

Yeah I am gonna do that right now.
